What are carbon wheels?

Carbon wheels are a type of wheel built from carbon fiber, a light and strong material used to create lightweight components with a superior strength-to-weight ratio. Carbon wheels offer weight savings compared to traditional aluminum alloy wheels and provide a stiffer ride, improved acceleration and improved aerodynamics.

Carbon wheels have quickly gained a reputation among cyclists as essential equipment for improving speed and performance on a variety of terrains. Scope wheels are ready to explore any terrain – from smooth roads to rocky trails. The wheels are suitable for use in all weather conditions, such as sunny and dry conditions, but also during wet or winter conditions.

It’s important to know which carbon wheels are compatible with your bike’s setup. We are more than happy to assist you in making the right choice for your bike.

Benefits of carbon wheels

Carbon is the lightest material used in bicycle wheels, which means that you get a wheel that is lightweight and incredibly efficient. That translates into reduced effort when riding, giving cyclists a competitive edge as they are able to reach higher speeds quicker.

When it comes to versatility, carbon wheels are the way to go; they are perfect for road bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes.

Carbon wheels can be more comfortable than other wheels. Thanks to their lightweight construction and superior energy transfer called lateral stiffness. Lateral stiffness makes sure that all the energy you put into your pedaling, becomes a forward motion instead of a bending wheel that moves from side to side. With a stiffer wheel you can expect an overall smoother ride.

The lightweight construction of carbon wheels helps to reduce the amount of effort needed to reach higher speeds, while offering superior stability. You can also expect to see an improvement in performance; safe to say that carbon wheels will make you cycle faster!

Scope road wheels are lightweight, stiff, and aerodynamically optimized. Scope road wheels offer pure road racing characteristics and don’t leave room for excuses when it counts. Available for both rim and disc brakes.

Our road wheels come in three varieties – Artech, R-Series and the S-Series.

Artech Series road wheels offer the fastest and lightest wheelsets developed for paved roads, without compromising on stiffness, durability, and safety.

The lightweight and aerodynamic Artech Road wheelsets are developed for climbing, all-round and aero purposes. All come with our latest technologies including our unique 3D printed hubs, the Aeroscale rim technology, and Carbonlite Aerospokes spokes. All of this will be offered for € 3998,- per set.

The R-Series wheels are more lightweight due to the lighter hub system and spokes. The hub features our diamond hardened ratchet system for direct engagement, improved durability and a significant reduction in weight. FAQ

Carbon wheels vs aluminum: what's the difference?

Carbon is a lighter material than aluminum, which makes it possible for carbon wheels to have higher rims but not a higher weight. A high rim makes a wheel more aerodynamic which therefore means that you can cycle faster! In addition, the unique properties of carbon wheels ensure better handling and more comfort. Carbon wheels not only offer some performance advantages, in our opinion they also make your bike look seriously cool – definitely a bonus if you ask us!

Read more about the difference of carbon and aluminum wheels in our blog.

Will carbon wheels make me faster?

Carbon wheels can help reduce weight and improve stiffness and aerodynamics, which leads to an increase in speed while riding your bike. However, other factors such as rider strength and technique also play a significant role in overall speed.

Read our blog if you want to learn more about speed increase and carbon wheels.

Are carbon wheels worth it?

Carbon wheels can offer improved performance and reduce weight compared to traditional aluminum wheels. We also think that carbon wheels also make your bike look seriously cool! It depends on your individual needs and budget, but for many riders, carbon wheels can be worth the investment.

What about carbon wheels in the rain?

It’s not a problem to ride in the rain with your carbon wheels. Just keep in mind that when you have rim brakes, your break distance can extend when it rains heavily. With disc brakes this is not an issue. Moisture can cause damage to your bike in general, wheels included, so don’t forget to towel off after a wet weather activity.

Are carbon wheels suitable for winter riding?

Yes, they are! Carbon wheels are normally great for winter rides, but there are some things you need to take into consideration when riding outdoors during the winter. The weather conditions during winter often lead to wet roads with salt and/or sand spread on the road. This can have an effect on your bike, especially the brake track of your wheel. This might be a reason why many riders have so called winter bikes or wheels – in the end, this effect is the same for both carbon and alloy wheels.

How long do carbon wheels last?

The lifespan of carbon wheels depends on a variety of factors such as usage, maintenance and the riders weight, but a well-maintained set of carbon wheels can last for years. This makes carbon wheels the best option if you want to enjoy wheels for as long as possible.

How to clean carbon wheels?

Cleaning carbon wheels is best done with a gentle, pH-neutral cleaner and a soft cloth or brush. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scrubbing too hard as this can damage the surface of the wheels. Keep your bike running strong by making sure it’s completely dry before storage or the next ride. Moisture can cause serious damage, so don’t forget to towel off after a wash or wet weather activity.

Are carbon wheels more comfortable?

Carbon wheels are a lot stiffer than aluminum wheels, which allows faster acceleration out of a turn and more precise steering. This can all result in a smoother and more comfortable ride compared to aluminium wheels.

Carbon wheels vs alloy for mountain biking (MTB): which is better?

The choice between carbon and alloy wheels for MTB depends on the specific needs and preferences of the rider. Carbon wheels can offer improved performance and reduce weight significantly. Our carbon wheels combine light weight, lateral stiffness, comfort and durability all in once. This makes our off-road wheel set the perfect choice for any XC track.
